The Garden In September

September 10th, 2018

September is one of my favorite times in the garden. Late summer flowers are coming into bloom, many things are super lush with an entire season of growth on them. It’s an exuberant time, one I try to soak up as much as possible before the days get cold and the snow starts to fall. Here are a few photos in the main vegetable from last week:

What are you loving in your garden right now?

Susy, my garden is mostly done for this year. I was out trimming back the tomato plants a couple days ago. There’s no use in letting the vines continue to bloom when there’s no chance they will get to a ripened state before the frost. There’s 35 days until the first frost date for here in Nebraska. I have plans for growing micro greens during the Winter months so that experiment will start soon. Cleanup in the garden has already started.

Your garden looks beautiful. You have really done an awesome job of design. Enjoy your Fall beauty in the garden. Have the best day ever in the garden.

That cabbage is gorgeous! What variety is it?
I am loving the extra flowers I planted this year in my potager. As the vegetables get overgrown and sad there’s still bursts of color!

Right now in my garden I’m loving the red torch Mexican sunflower plant I bought from your Seeds and Sundries store. It has been brilliant in color, height, and among pollinators. It is blooming consistently at a time when other plants are starting to wane, especially here in the Florida heat. Thank you so much for introducing me to this wonderful plant!

Late Bloomer

Here in Maine, the hardy hibiscus is a late bloomer. In fact, I always think it didn't survive the winter...
